The traditional origami crane and papers of th...

You have bored kids at home, what do you do?  Show them how to do Easy Origami for kids.  Origami is the beautiful and ancient Japanese art of paper folding.  We’ve all seen the intricate and complex creations that a true master can make, done without glue and scissors.  But, your kids shouldn’t be daunted.  There are plenty of easy origami patterns out there for kids to try, and enjoy.  They will be delighted when they see their own beautiful artwork being created at the tips of their fingers.  It will also give them a sense of accomplishment to learn to do this.

Children as young as four can start doing Easy Origami for kids, with a parent or adult sitting with them helping them along.  An older child can do the project on their own, with no coaching from adults.  A younger child is going to be able to make very simple projects with minimal folding.  Some patterns include making puppy or kitty heads that will allow the child to add faces to them, either by drawing or adding other accessories, like googly eyes, so that the finished project is personalized.

As the child grows more confident in their folding skills, they can make other, more complicated projects.  Easy Origami for kids isn’t limited to very simple patterns.  Older kids will be able to learn how to make things like the traditional cranes that we all think of when we think origami.  They will also be able to make things like boxes that can hold things, or cubes that they can blow up, stars that they can hang.  Imagine a Christmas tree that has decorations that your kids have made.  Or, having their creations hung from ceilings, in windows or put on the refrigerators.  Your kids will be so proud of their work.

Easy Origami for kids isn’t just for kids at home.  If you are a teacher, there are projects that you can teach your students.  Easy origami projects would be a great accompaniment to a section on Japan.  Younger students of preschool or kindergarten age will need to learn in small groups of perhaps 3 or less so that they will be able to follow the instructions.    Older kids will be able to learn easy origami in larger groups, since they are better able to follow instructions and have better coordination.  Easy origami is a great project for kids, that will keep them interested for a while.

Take a piece of origami paper and put it on the edge of the normal paper and cut around it.

The second way is to fold up an edge of one corner and cut around that.  That’s how you would do it if you do not have any origami paper.

Where Can I Buy Origami Paper?

Looking for Origami Paper?

The first thing you need in order to start  is origami paper.  You can buy origami paper from craft stores like Hobby Lobby or online at sites such as Amazon.com.

If  you were just starting I would suggest getting larger origami paper, because the small paper is sometimes hard to fold at first.   And besides the larger paper makes larger origami objects, which the kids love.
